Om rennene

Falun
● There has been one previous Women’s World Cup event in Falun; on 15 March
2014. Sara Takanashi (JPN) won on the Normal Hill, ahead of Yuki Ito (JPN),
and Julia Kykkänen (FIN). Current active athletes Katharina Schmid (GER) &
Anna Odine Ström (NOR) also competed, placing 22nd and 27th respectively.
● In 2015, the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships took place in Falun. Carina
Vogt (GER) won the women’s event; Yuki Ito (JPN) took silver and Daniela
Iraschko-Stolz (AUT) claimed bronze.
● In the Falun 2015 Mixed Team event Katharina Schmid was part of the winning
German team. Sara Takanashi and Yuki Ito collected bronze with Japan.
Nozomi Maruyama (JPN)
● Nozomi Maruyama (JPN) won both women’s events at the opening World Cup
weekend in Lillehammer last week, and the Mixed Team event with Japan.
● The wins in Lillehammer were her first World Cup victories. Nozomi Maruyama
had competed in 116 individual World Cup events prior to this season.
● Nozomi Maruyama became the first woman since Maren Lundby (NOR) in
2019/20 to win the first two individual women’s events of a World Cup season.
● The only woman to start a World Cup season with at least three consecutive
individual victories was Sara Takanashi (JPN). In 2013/14, she won the first four
women’s individual World Cup events.
● Last season, Japanese women did not win any World Cup event. Their last World
Cup victory before this season was by Yuki Ito in Sapporo on 14 January 2024.
● Japan has won 74 individual women’s events in the World Cup (63 by Sara
Takanashi, 9 by Yuki Ito and 2 by Nozomi Maruyama), more than any other
nation (Austria follows on 58).
Nika Prevc (SLO)
● Nika Prevc (SLO) had won each of the last 10 women’s individual World Cup
events last season. In Lillehammer, she finished 15th and third.
● This will be Nika Prevc’s first World Cup event in Sweden. So far, she has
attained World Cup victories in; Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Japan, Slovenia,
Norway, United States and Finland.
●Abigail Strate (CAN) claimed second place in the women’s opening World Cup
event of this season. It was her sixth individual podium finish in the World Cup,
but she has yet to win (2x second places, 4x third places).
● Abigail Strate can become the fourth Canadian ski jumper to win a World Cup
event, after Steve Collins (won one in 1980), Horst Bulau (won 13 between
1981 and 1983), and Alexandria Loutitt (won two between 2023 and 2025).
● Lisa Eder (AUT) finished third in the women’s opening World Cup event of this
season, her sixth individual podium finish in the World Cup. Just like Abigail
Strate, she is still waiting for a first victory (1x second place, 5x third places).
● Katharina Schmid (GER) can reach her first podium in an individual World Cup
event since a second place finish in Villach (AUT) on 6 January 2025.
● Heidi Dyhre Traaserud (NOR) claimed her first podium finish in the World Cup
by taking second place in the second women’s event in Lillehammer last week.
● Coming into Falun, Norway has attained 199 victories in individual World Cup
events; 152 in men’s events and 47 in women’s events.
● Frida Westman (SWE) is the only Swedish woman to finish on the podium in a
World Cup event. On 6 November 2022, she claimed third place in Wisla.
● Frida Westman will be the first Swedish woman to compete in a World Cup
event on Swedish snow.
● Only one ski jumper representing Sweden has ever won a World Cup event on
Swedish snow. On 10 March 1991, Mikael Martinsson won the men’s individual
event in Falun.
