Format
The FIDE World Cup 2023 takes place July 29-August 25, 2023, in Baku, Azerbaijan. 206 players, who qualified in a variety of ways, will participate. The format is a knockout tournament with eight rounds. All rounds are two-game matches. The time control is 90 minutes for 40 moves followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game plus a 30-second increment starting on move one. The top three finishers will qualify for the FIDE Candidates Tournament 2024. Official regulations.
