Historikk og statistikk
Sweden
Swedish cross-country skiers Frida Karlsson (5) and Ebba Andersson (4)
are the women to have won the most individual World Cup events this
season. Both women won two classic style distance events.
Andersson has won each of the last three women’s individual distance
events she started in (she did not start in the 50km freestyle at
Holmenkollen last week. Andersson became the first Swedish woman to
win three successive individual World Cup distance events.
Andersson won five of the last six distance events she competed in at the
World Cup and world championships. The exception was a third-place
finish in the 10km freestyle at the world championships.
Karsson and Andersson have never won an individual World Cup event in
Falun. Andersson finished 2nd-2nd-3rd in the 10km freestyle here.
Linn Svahn became the first Swedish woman to win a 10km classic style
World Cup in Falun, when she won the most recent 10km classic style
event here in January 2021.
Kerttu Niskanen
Kerttu Niskanen (970) has a seven point lead in the overall distance
standings this World Cup season. Jessica Diggins follows on 963 points.
Niskanen aims to become the first Finnish woman to win an individual
crystal globe since Virpi Kuitunen won the distance and overall World Cups
in 2007/08.
Her brother Iivo Niskanen won the men’s distance crystal globe last
season.
Niskanen recorded 11 of her 13 podium finishes in World Cup distance
events in the classic style. The exceptions were third places in the skiathlon
at the World Cup Final in Falun on 15 March 2014 and in the 9km pursuit in
the Tour de Ski in Val di Fiemme in January 2017.
Other contenders
Tiril Udnes Weng finished inside the top 10 in all six classic style individual
distance events she participated in at the 2022/23 World Cup: 9-2-7-1-4-7.
Her win came in the 10km pursuit classic style in Val Müstair on 1 January
(Tour de Ski).
Jessica Diggins is still in contention to win the overall and distance crystal
globes this season. She won both trophies in 2020/21. Kikkan Randall is
the only USA woman on more individual World Cup classification wins:
three sprint crystal globes.
Women representing United States have never finished higher than third
place in a World Cup distance event in the classic style. Diggins was the
last to claim a podium finish, as she came third in the 10km pursuit classic
style in Toblach on 6 January 2021 (Tour de Ski).
Diggins (2) is the only non-Swedish woman on multiple wins in individual
distance World Cup events this season.
Ragnhild Gløersen Haga won the most recent individual women’s
distance World Cup event: the inaugural edition of the 50 km freestyle in
Oslo on 12 March. It was her first individual World Cup podium spot since
the 10km pursuit freestyle in Falun on 18 March 2018 (2nd).
Rosie Brennan is fourth in the overall distance standings this World Cup
season despite finishing on the podium only once (third in the 20km
freestyle event in Davos on 18 December).
Heidi Weng has 105 podium finishes in individual World Cup events,
fourth-most behind Marit Bjørgen (186), Therese Johaug (149) and Justyna
Kowalczyk (106).
Weng has claimed 10 individual podium finishes in Falun, but she has
never won here. This is the most individual podium finishes for a woman at
a specific venue without having won there.
