Historikk og statistikk
Johannes Høsflot Klæbo
Johannes Høsflot Klæbo has won 15 of the 26 individual men’s events in
the 2022/23 World Cup, a record for most wins in a single season (Martin
Johnsrud Sundby 14 in 2015/16)
The all-time record for most individual World Cup victories in a single
season is 20, set by Therese Johaug in 2019/20.
Klæbo (85) has surpassed Petter Northug (84) as record holder on the
most podiums in men’s individual World Cup events.
Klæbo can become the first man to win three 10km classic World Cup
events in a single season. This is the second season in which there have
been at least three 10km classic World Cup events, after 1996/97 (3 – all
different winners).
Iivo Niskanen
The last non-Norwegian victory in a men’s distance event in the World Cup
was the triumph by Iivo Niskanen in the 15km classic style in Lahti on 27
February 2022.
Norwegian men won each of the last 17 distance events in the men’s World
Cup, including all of 2022/23. Prior to this run, a country never won more
than 11 consecutive distance events in the men’s World Cup (Norway in
1991-1992).
Niskanen is the only non-Norwegian man to finish in the top two of a World
Cup distance events this season, as he claimed a second place in the
20km classic style in Les Rousses on 29 January.
Other contenders
Pål Golberg has recorded seven podium finishes in individual World Cup
distance events this season (3 wins, 4 second places). Only Johannes
Høsflot Klæbo (8, including 7 wins) has claimed as many.
Golberg (1,063 points) could secure the overall distance standings. Hans
Christer Holund (948) and Klæbo (936) are trailing him. Martin Johnsrud
Sundby (2016/17) was the last Norwegian man to win this crystal globe.
Only Klæbo (7) and Golberg (3) won as many individual distance World
Cup events this season as Simen Hegstad Krüger (3). Krüger won all
three previous distance events he started in (World Cup and world
championships).
Hans Christer Holund has claimed four podium finishes in distance World
Cup events this season, but he has yet to claim a win. The last man to
achieve more distance World Cup podium finishes in a season without
having winning any was Didrik Tønseth in 2018/19. Pål-Gunnar
Mikkelsplass finished on the podium six times in 1988/189 without having
won (record).
Didrik Tønseth won the previous individual distance World Cup event in
Falun on 12 March 2022 (15 km freestyle). Tønseth’s last podium finish
came in the most recent 10 km classic style World Cup event: a third place
in Oberstdorf on 3 January.
William Poromaa has claimed four podium finishes in World Cup events,
all of which were third places (3 in distance events, 1 in mixed relay).
Poromaa and Calle Halfvarsson can become the first Swedish crosscountry skier to win a men’s individual World Cup distance event on
Swedish snow since Marcus Hellner won the 15km Freestyle in Gällivare in
November 2010.
Halfvarsson finished second in last season’s 15km freestyle World Cup
event in Falun. Halfvarsson’s last individual World Cup win dates back to
December 2016 when he won the 10km freestyle event in the 3-Days Tour.
