Statistikk og historikk
Norway
Norway has won the men’s 4x10km relay world title 20 times, including
each of the 11 times in this century.
The last time Norway failed to claim the world title in this event was in
1999, when Austria won on home snow, 0.2 seconds ahead of Norway.
Norway claimed a medal in 24 of the last 25 world championships men’s
relays (1972-2021), with the only exception in that run a fourth-place finish
in 1989. Back then, Norway finished 0.4 seconds behind third-placed
Czechoslovakia. Finland took silver, while Sweden won in Lahti.
Petter Northug (5) holds the record for the most wins in the 4x10km relay at
the world championships. Emil Iversen (2), Johannes Høsflot Klæbo (2)
and Sjur Røthe (2) could join a group of 12 cross-country skiers with three
or more wins in this event.
Norway’s 2021 gold medal winning team of Pål Golberg, Hans Christer
Holund, Iversen and Klæbo have all been selected as part of the Norway
team for these world championships.
Klæbo was only two years old when Norway last failed to win the men’s
relay at the Nordic ski world championships in 1999.
France
France won the bronze medal in the men’s 4x10km relay in 2021 behind
the Russian Ski Federation (second). France (G0-S0-B3) is the team to
have won the most medals in this event, without winning gold or silver.
France has won bronze in three of the last four world championships in this
event, only failing to reach the podium in 2017, in Lahti.
France claimed bronze in this event at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in
Beijing, behind second-placed Norway. Clément Parisse (27:02.1)
recorded the fastest leg among all competitors.
Other contenders
Sweden has won nine world titles in the men’s 4x10km relay but not since
1989. Calle Halfvarsson was born a few weeks after Sweden last won this
event in February 1989.
Only Norway (34) has won more world championships medals in the men’s
relay than Sweden (28, G9-S7-B12).
The Swedish team of Eric Rosjö, Johan Häggström, Edvin Anger and
Halfvarsson finished second on 5 February in the men’s relay at the World
Cup event in Toblach (4×7.5km). That is the only men’s relay raced this
season in the World Cup.
Italy won the men’s 4×7.5km World Cup event on home snow in Toblach in
February. Italy (G0-S2-B6) has won the most medals in this event at the
world championships without winning gold but has not finished on the
podium since 1999 (bronze).
