Norway
Norway won the world title in the men’s team sprint freestyle this year.
Johannes Høsflot Klæbo and Pål Golberg competed for them in Planica.
It was Norway’s third successive world title in the men’s team sprint.
The Norwegians also won the gold medal in the men’s team sprint at the
last two Olympic Winter Games.
Norway has won 14 World Cup events in the men’s team sprint, but in this
season’s team sprint event Norway finished 15th and 16th, in Livigno on 22
January.
Johannes Høsflot Klæbo has won a record 39 individual sprint World Cup
events, but only only one team sprint World Cup event: in Lahti on 10
February 2019.
Other contenders
France won the only previous men’s team sprint event in this season’s
World Cup, in Livigno last January. Richard Jouve and Renaud Jay
competed for France.
It was France’s second World Cup win in the team sprint, after a victory in
Dresden in January 2020.
Italy has won eight men’s team sprint World Cup events, third-most behind
Norway (14) and Russia (11). Italy’s last win was in Ulricehamn in February
2021.
Italy’s Federico Pellegrino (3) can equal the record for most World Cup
wins in the men’s team sprint, held by Alexey Petukhov, Tor Arne Hetland,
Cristian Zorzi, Ola Vigen Hattestad and Nikolay Morilov (all 4).
Finland claimed four World Cup podiums in the men’s team sprint, most
recently a third place by Mäki/Hakola in Planica on 22 December 2019.
Finland has yet to win this event in the World Cup.
Sweden finished runners up in World Cup team sprint events a record 13
times. Its last win came in Düsseldorf in December 2011.

Sweden
Sweden (12) is chasing Norway (15) for most women’s team sprint wins in
the World Cup. Sweden won 10 of the last 13 team sprints in the women’s
World Cup.
Since 2015, Sweden won 10 women’s team sprint events in the World Cup.
Russia (1), Switzerland (1) and Slovenia (1) follow on one win each in that
period.
Maja Dahlqvist was part of each of the last seven Swedish wins in
women’s team sprints in the World Cup. No Swedish woman has won as
many team sprints as Dahlqvist.
Only Norway’s Marit Bjørgen (10) and Hilde Pedersen (7) have won as
many women’s team sprints as Dahlqvist (7).
Dahlqvist won the most recent women’s team sprint event held in Lahti, on
10 February 2019 alongside Ida Ingemarsdotter. No cross-country skier
has won multiple team sprint events in Lahti.
Emma Ribom and Jonna Sundling won the women’s team sprint event at
the world championships this year. Sundling has finished top two in four of
her last five team sprint events in the World Cup.
Norway
If Tiril Udnes Weng and Lotta Udnes Weng form a team they can become
the first twins to win a team sprint event in the World Cup.
Norway has won the most women’s team sprint events in the World Cup
(15), but none of the last 13 team sprint events.
Norway’s last team sprint victory in the women’s World Cup was in the
classic style in Nové Mesto na Morave on 12 January 2014 (Maiken
Caspersen Falla and Ingvild Flugstad Østberg).
Norway failed to reach the podium in each of its last five women’s team
sprint appearances in the World Cup since a second place in Lahti on 10
February 2019.
Other contenders
Slovenia’s only women’s team sprint win in the World Cup came in
Ulricehamn on 7 February 2021, when Anamarija Lampic and Eva Urevc
emerged victorious ahead of Sweden (+0.18), Switzerland (+0.25) and
USA (+0.31).
Germany’s Katharina Hennig and Victoria Carl won the gold medal in the
team sprint event (classic style) at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games.
Germany’s last World Cup win in a team sprint event was 13 years ago in
Rybinsk (24 January 2010).
United States won one women’s team event in the World Cup, in Quebec
on 7 December 2012 (Jessica Diggins and Kikkan Randall).
USA finished on the podium in the last two women’s team sprint events in
the World Cup. Julia Kern was part of both teams.
