Jessica Diggins
Jessica Diggins has a 44 seconds lead on Kerttu Niskanen ahead of the
final two events of this season’s Tour de Ski. She won the 2020/21 Tour de
Ski with a margin of 1:24.8.
The smallest winning margin in the Tour de Ski overall standings occurred
in 2008/09, when Virpi Kuitunen had a lead of 7.2 seconds on Aino-Kaisa
Saarinen.
The last Tour de Ski in which the overall the lead changed in the last two
stages was 2017/18: Heidi Weng overtook Ingvild Flugstad Østberg.
Østberg had a lead of 57 seconds before the last two stages.
Diggins has yet to win an individual World Cup event in classic style. All
eight of her podium finishes in classic style events were third places,
including two in this season’s Tour de Ski.
The only non-European winners of individual World Cup events in classic
style are Canada’s Beckie Scott (15km in Canmore, 17 December 2005)
and USA’s Sophie Caldwell Hamilton in the sprint in Oberstdorf in the Tour
de Ski on 5 January 2016.
Kerttu Niskanen
Kerttu Niskanen can become the second Finnish woman to win the Tour de
Ski, after Virpi Kuitunen in 2006/07 (first edition) and 2008/09.
Niskanen won both classic style events in this season’s Tour de Ski. At the
age of 35, she became the oldest winner of a women’s event in the Tour de
Ski.
Niskanen could equal Kuitunen (2008/09) and Justyna Kowalczyk (2011/12
& 2012/13) in winning three classic style stages in a single Tour de Ski.
Niskanen has won seven individual World Cup events. She is closing in on
her brother Iivo Niskanen who has won eight individual World Cups.
All seven of Niskanen’s individual World Cup wins were in classic style
events. Iivo Niskanen also claimed all his eight wins in classic style events.
The only Finnish woman to win an individual World Cup event in Val di
Fiemme was Virpi Kuitunen: four wins, all in the Tour de Ski (2007-2009).
Other contenders
Rosie Brennan can claim her third individual World Cup win, and the first
in a classic style event. Her two wins were the sprint and 10km freestyle
events in Davos on 12 and 13 December 2020 respectively.

Weng (37) already holds the record for most podium finishes in all Tour de

Weng (12) is level with Johaug (12) in most podium finishes in individual
World Cup events in Val di Fiemme. Weng won five events here, secondmost behind Johaug’s 10 victories.
Victoria Carl could become the third German woman to win an individual
Tour de Ski event, after Claudia Nystad in December 2008 (2.8km
freestyle) and Katharina Hennig on 7 January 2023 (15km classic).
Linn Svahn has won five Tour de Ski events. Among Swedish women,
only Stina Nilsson (6) won more.
Linn Svahn (6) is level with Stina Nilsson (6) for most individual World Cup
wins in the classic style among Swedish women.
Among Swedish women, only Charlotte Kalla (9) has won more individual
World Cup distance events than Frida Karlsson (7, including record 4 in
classic style) and Ebba Andersson (7). Andersson has withdrawn from this
Tour de Ski.
Jonna Sundling has won seven individual World Cup events, but all in
sprint events.
