Norway
Norwegian skiers have won each of the last 23 individual distance events in
the men’s World Cup. The streak began after Finland’s Iivo Niskanen won
the 15km classic style in Lahti on 27 February 2022.
Each of the last five distance events in the men’s World Cup were won by
five different Norwegians (including all four distance events in the 2023/24
season):Johannes Høsflot Klæbo, Martin Løwstrøm Nyenget, Jan Thomas
Jenssen, Pål Golberg and Harald Østberg Amundsen.
Simen Hegstad Krüger is the reigning world champion in the men’s
skiathlon. On 24 February, Krüger was joined on the podium in Planica by
compatriots Johannes Høsflot Klæbo (silver) and Sjur Røthe (bronze).
Harald Østberg Amundsen, the leader in the distance World Cup
standings – has competed in one skiathlon in the World Cup. He came 23rd
in Lillehammer on 7 December 2019.
Amundsen could become the first male skier other than Klæbo to win backto-back World Cup distance events since Pål Golberg in December 2022.
Johannes Høsflot Klæbo’sresults in the three individual distance events
in which he participated in the 2023/24 World Cup: 14th (10km classic style
Ruka), 21st (20km freestyle and Ruka) and 7th (10km freestyle Östersund).
He did not compete in the 20km freestyle mass start in Ruka.
Klæbo has won one skiathlon in the World Cup: the 2 x 15km in
Lillehammer on 3 December 2017.
Klæbo did not reach the finish in his last World Cup participation in a
skiathlon event: in Oberstdorf on 25 January 2020.

Each of the last 65 individual men’s World Cup distance events were won
by skiers representing Norway (39), Russia (21) or Finland (5).
The streak of 65 events started after Canada’s Alex Harvey emerged
victorious in the 15km pursuit freestyle at the World Cup Final in Quebec
on 24 March 2019.
This marks the first skiathlon event in the men’s World Cup since 23
January 2021, when Emil Iversen took the win in the 2 x 15km skiathlon in
Lahti. Iversen has not been selected for the World Cup events in
Trondheim.
Each of the last 10 skiathlon event in the men’s World Cup were either won
by athletes representing Norway (5) or Russia (5). The sequence began
after Canada’s Alex Harvey won the 2 x 15km skiathlon at the World Cup
Final in Falun on 15 March 2014.
This is the first 2 x 10km skiathlon event in the men’s World Cup since 3
January 2017. Sergey Ustiugov triumphed in the Tour de Ski stage in
Oberstdorf that day.
Alexander Bolshunov is the reigning Olympic champion in the men’s
skiathlon. He handed the Russian Olympic Committee the gold medal at
the 2022 Olympic Winter Games on 6 February 2022 (event held in
Zhangjiakou). Denis Spitsov (silver) and Iivo Niskanen (bronze) were the
other medallists.
The last man representing Sweden to win a skiathlon event in the World
Cup was Mathias Fredriksson in Sapporo on 19 March 2006.

Det er en stor glede å invitere alle medlemmene av Det internasjonale skiforbundet (FIS) til verdenscup i Trondheim 15. – 17. desember, 2023. Vi ser frem til å få besøk i vårt toppmoderne anlegg i Granåsen og ikke minst å ønske dere velkommen tilbake til VM i 2025.
Verdenscupen i Trondheim gir utøvere og støtteapparat en unik mulighet til å teste ut VM-løypene, bli kjent med VM-anlegget, byen og utøverhotellet.
