Menn

General
* This will be the 17th edition of the Tour de Ski since it was held for the first
time in 2006/07. There have been nine different winners of the Tour de Ski.
* Dario Cologna (4) has the most overall Tour victories. Johannes Høsflot
Klæbo (2), Alexander Bolshunov (2), Martin Johnsrud Sundby (2) and
Lukáš Bauer (2) are the other men to have won the Tour de Ski more than
once.
* Petter Northug (13) holds the men’s record for most stage wins in the Tour
de Ski. Klæbo is in second place on 11 stage triumphs.
* The record for most stage wins in a single edition is five, by Sergey
Ustiugov in 2016/17 and Alexander Bolshunov in 2020/21.
* The only male skier to win the Tour de Ski without claiming a stage in that
edition is Alexander Legkov in 2012/13.
* Val di Fiemme is the only venue to have been part of the Tour de Ski on all
previous 16 occasions.
* This Tour de Ski will feature a 20km freestyle pursuit event, in Oberstdorf
on 4 January. It is the first time an event of at least 20km of length is
included in the Tour de Ski programme since 2016/17, a 20km skiathlon in
Oberstdorf on 3 January 2017 (won by Sergey Ustiugov).
Johannes Høsflot Klæbo
* Johannes Høsflot Klæbo recorded his second Tour de Ski overall victory
last season. His first Tour de Ski victory was in 2018/19. He can join Dario
Cologna (4) as the only men to have won the Tour de Ski more than twice.
* Klæbo can become the third man to win back-to-back Tour de Ski titles,
after Cologna in 2010/11-2011/12 and Alexander Bolshunov in 2019/20-
2020/21.
* Only Petter Northug (13) has won more Tour de Ski stages among men
than Klæbo (11).
* Klæbo has won six sprint events in the Tour de Ski, at least three more
than any other man (Federico Pellegrino on three).
* Klæbo has won all six Tour de Ski sprint stages he participated in.
Pål Golberg
* Pål Golberg leads the overall World Cup standings this season coming into
the Tour de Ski. He has recorded five podium finishes in World Cup events
this season, of which four were in classic style events.
* Golberg has yet to win a stage in the Tour de Ski. His best results are thirdplace finishes in the 15km classic style (Lenzerheide) and the sprint classic
style (Oberstdorf) in last season’s Tour de Ski.
* Golberg finished sixth and fifth in his two previous Tour de Ski
participations, in 2019/20 and 2021/22 respectively.
* Golberg can become the fourth Norwegian man to win the Tour de Ski,
after Johannes Høsflot Klæbo (2), Martin Johnsrud Sundby (2) and Petter
Northug (1). No country has four different winners in the men’s Tour de Ski
(Russia also three).
Other contenders
* Federico Pellegrino has won three stages in the Tour de Ski, all sprint
freestyle events. Johannes Høsflot Klæbo (6) is the only man to have won
more sprint stages in the competition.
* The best result for an Italian man in the overall standings was a third place
for Giorgio Di Centa in 2007/08.
* Richard Jouve can become the first Frenchman to win won the Tour de
Ski. France has won three stages in the competition, but not since Maurice
Manificat won the 9km pursuit freestyle in Val di Fiemme on 8 January
2017.
* Iivo Niskanen is hoping to become the second skier from Finland, male or
female, to win the Tour de Ski after Virpi Kuitunen, who won the women’s
competition in both 2006/07 and 2008/09. Niskanen finished third in the
overall standings last season.
* Hans Christer Holund (33 years) can become the oldest winner of the
Tour de Ski. The record is currently held by Lukáš Bauer, who won his
fourth Tour de Ski title at the age of 32.
* Only two men have recorded Tour de Ski stage wins while being older than
Holund (33y-309d on 31 December): Odd-Bjørn Hjelmeset (36y-30d) in
January 2008 and Tor Arne Hetland (34y-352) in December 2008.
* Andrew Musgrave has competed in 11 Tour de Skis, with a 15th place in
2017/18 as his best result in the overall standings. Musgrave’s best finish in
a Tour de Ski stage is a fourth place in the 15km mass start freestyle in
Oberstdorf on 31 December 2021.
* Sweden has never won the overall standings of the men’s Tour de Ski.
Marcus Hellner finished second in 2011/12 and Calle Halfvarsson was third
in 2014/15.
* Sweden’s last stage win in the Tour de Ski was the sprint classic victory for
Oskar Svensson in Val di Fiemme on 9 January 2021.

Kvinner

General
* This will be the 17th edition of the Tour de Ski since it was held for the first
time in the 2006/07 season. Virpi Kuitunen won the inaugural edition.
* Norwegian athletes have won the women’s Tour de Ski a record seven
times, but not since Therese Johaug’s victory in 2019/20.
* Val Müstair will host Tour de Ski stages for a sixth time, and the first time
since 2020/21. Jessie Diggins won the most recent Tour de Ski stage held
in Val Müstair, a 10km freestyle pursuit on 3 January 2021.
* The last three stages of this season’s Tour de Ski will be held in Val di
Fiemme. It is the only venue to have been part of the Tour de Ski on all
previous 16 occasions.
* This Tour de Ski will feature a 20km freestyle pursuit event in the fourth
stage in Oberstdorf on 4 January. It will be the longest event in the
women’s Tour de Ski history.
Norway
* Norwegian women have won the Tour de Ski a record seven times,
including seven of the last eight times they participated in the competition
(they did not attend in 2020/21).
* Norwegian skiers have failed to win any of the last 10 women’s individual
World Cup events, the longest streak without a World Cup win for the
country since December 2020-January 2021 (12).
* Norwegian skiers are yet to win a World Cup event this season, but Tiril
Udnes Weng is leading the overall standings. Her best overall results in
the Tour de Ski are 10th-place finishes in 2019/20 and 2021/22.
* Heidi Weng is looking for her third overall win in the Tour de Ski. The only
women to have won the Tour de Ski more than two times are Justyna
Kowalczyk (4) and Therese Johaug (3).
* Besides her two Tour de Ski victories (2016/17 and 2017/18), Weng has
recorded third-place finishes in the overall standings in four editions
(2013/14, 2014/15, 2015/16 and 2021/22). Among women, only Therese
Johaug (7) has recorded more podium finishes in the overall standings of
the Tour de Ski than Weng (5).
* Weng (30) is one short of equalling Petter Northug on a record 31 podium
finishes in Tour de Ski stages (5 stage wins).
* Only Kowalczyk and Johaug (both 14) have won more Tour de Ski stages
among women than Ingvild Flugstad Østberg (11).
Ebba Andersson
* Ebba Andersson finished third in the Tour de Ski in 2020/21 and second in
2021/22. Only Therese Johaug (G3-S3-B1) and Ingvild Flugstad Østberg
(G1-S2-B1) have recorded first-, second- and third-place podium finishes in
the overall standings in the Tour de Ski.
* No female skier has finished on the final podium of one of the five Tours (3-
Days Tour, Ski Tour, Ski Tour Canada, Tour de Ski and World Cup Final)
as often without claiming victory as Andersson (4).
* Andersson recorded two second-place finishes in Tour de Ski stages last
season: the 10km classic in Lenzerheide and the 10km freestyle mass start
climb in Val di Fiemme. Only Charlotte Kalla (10) has achieved more Tour
de Ski stage podium finishes than Andersson (9) among Swedish skiers.
* Kalla is the only Swedish woman who has won the Tour de Ski, in 2007/08.
Other contenders
* Jessie Diggins won the Tour de Ski in 2020/21 and is still the only nonEuropean athlete (male or female) to have claimed a Tour de Ski title.
* Diggins finished on the podium in all three stages in Val Müstair in the
2020/21 Tour de Ski, including a victory in the 10km freestyle pursuit on 3
January. She can join Linn Svahn and Stina Nilsson (two each) as the only
women to win multiple Tour de Ski stages in Val Müstair.
* Krista Pärmäkoski finished second in the Tour de Ski in 2016/17 and third
in 2018/19. She can become the second Finnish woman to win the Tour de
Ski after Virpi Kuitunen in 2006/07 (first edition) and 2008/09.
* No woman has finished on the podium in as many Tour de Ski stages
without winning one as Pärmäkoski (9).
* Katharina Hennig can become the second German woman to win a Tour
de Ski stage, after Claudia Nystad won the 2.8km freestyle in Oberhof on
27 December 2008.
* Frida Karlsson (23 years old) could become the second woman to win the
Tour de Ski before her 25th birthday, after her compatriot Charlotte Kalla
(20y-168d) in 2007/08.
* Women representing Switzerland have never finished higher than an
eighth place in the Tour de Ski: eight-place finishes for Natalie von
Siebenthal in the 2016/17 and 2017/18 Tour de Ski.
