The elite field for the 2024 TCS London Marathon features some of the fastest marathon runners in the world. The women’s race includes record-breaking athletes like Tigist Assefa from Ethiopia, who holds the current women’s marathon world record, and Brigid Kosgei from Kenya, known for her previous world record. The London Marathon, one of the six World Marathon Majors, has been contested by men and women annually since 29 March 1981. Set over a largely flat course around the River Thames, the marathon is 26.2 miles (42.2 km) in length and generally regarded as a competitive and unpredictable event, and conducive to fast times.
