Jessica Diggins leads this season’s overall World Cup and distance
rankings. She has won six individual World Cup events this season, and
claimed 11 podium finishes; both are personal records for a single season.
Diggins is the first woman from the US to record six individual World Cup
victories in a single season. Kikkan Randall won five individual World Cup
events in 2012/13.
Diggins has won seven individual World Cup 10km freestyle events, jointfourth among all women (alongside Julija Tchepalova). She trails only
Therese Johaug (16), Marit Bjørgen (9) and Katerina Neumannová (8).
Diggins is joint-third alongside Marit Bjørgen and Charlotte Kalla (all 15) for
most podium finishes in women’s World Cup 10km freestyle events, behind
only Therese Johaug (21) and Heidi Weng (17).
In total, United States has won seven individual women’s World Cup events
this season, their highest tally in a single campaign.
Each of the last six individual World Cup freestyle distance events were
won by women representing United States. Diggins won five events and
Sophia Laukli won the 10km freestyle climb in the Tour de Ski.
United States is the third country to win at least six successive individual
World Cup freestyle distance events, after Norway (on three occasions)
and Russia/Soviet Union (on two occasions).
Rosie Brennan is currently third in this season’s World Cup distance
rankings. She claimed here only victory in a World Cup distance event in
the 10km freestyle, in Davos on 13 December 2020.
Coming into this weekend, no woman representing US has achieved a
podium in an individual World Cup event on home snow.

The women’s World Cup returns to United States for the first time since
January 2001, when two individual women’s events were held in Salt Lake
City (freestyle sprint, skiathlon).
The only World Cup freestyle distance event in United States was won by
Italy’s Stefania Belmondo. She triumphed in the 15km freestyle in Salt Lake
City on 10 December 1989. Larissa Lazutina (2nd) and Elena Välbe (3rd)
completed the podium.
Delphine Claudel finished second in the most recent World Cup freestyle
distance event, the 15km in Canmore on 9 February. It marked her best
individual World Cup result of the season.
Claudel is aiming for her second individual World Cup victory, after the
10km freestyle in the Tour de Ski on 8 January 2023. She is the only
French woman to have won an individual World Cup event.
No woman has claimed as many podium finishes this World Cup season
without winning once as Heidi Weng (5).
Coming into this weekend, two Norwegian women have won an individual
World Cup event in United States: Brit Pettersen in Biwabik in December
1985 (10km classic) and Bente Skari in Salt Lake City in January 2001
(sprint freestyle).
Moa Ilar is the only woman other than Diggins and Laukli to win an
individual World Cup freestyle distance event this season. She triumphed in
the 20km freestyle in Ruka on 26 November 2023.
Five of Ebba Andersson’s seven individual World Cup wins came in 10km
events, including three freestyle events. The can become the first Swedish
woman to claim a podium in an individual World Cup distance event in
United States.
