Historikk og statistikk

Kerttu Niskanen
 In this season, Kerttu Niskanen is the only woman to have won multiple
individual World Cup distance classic style events: in Toblach on 31
December (10km classic) and in Davos on 4 January (20km pursuit
classic).
 Last season, Niskanen secured the distance crystal globe in the final
individual World Cup event of the season: the 20km classic style in Lahti on
26 March 2023. Niskanen’s fifth place was enough to keep Jessica Diggins
behind her.
 Niskanen can become the second Finnish woman to win an individual
World Cup 20km classic style event, after Marja-Liisa Kirvesniemi on 18
February 1984 (Olympic Winter Games in Sarajevo).
 Among Finnish women, only Virpi Kuitunen (30), Kirvesniemi (11) and
Marjo Matikainen (8) have won as many individual World Cup events as
Niskanen (7).
 All seven of Niskanen’s individual World Cup wins were in classic style
events. Iivo Niskanen, Kerttu’s brother, also claimed all his eight wins in
classic style events.
 The only Finnish woman to have won an individual World Cup event in
Oberhof was Kuitunen, who claimed the victory in the 10km pursuit classic
on 28 December 2018.
Jessica Diggings
 Coming into this weekend, Jessica Diggins has won four individual events
in the 2023/24 World Cup, including the overall Tour de Ski. She can
become the second USA woman to claim at least five individual World Cup
victories in a season, after Kikkan Randall in 2012/13 (5).
 Cross-country skiers representing United States have won five individual
World Cup events this season (Diggins 4, Sophia Laukli 1). Only in 2020/21
(6) did United States win more individual women’s events in a single World
Cup season. Note: excludes the sprint result on 19 January.
 Diggins finished on the podium in seven of this season’s 11 individual
World Cup distance events, claiming three victories: 10km freestyle in
Gällivare and Östersund, and the 20km pursuit freestyle in Toblach on 1
January.
 Last season, Frida Karlsson (4) and Ebba Andersson (4) were the only two
women to claim more than three victories in individual World Cup distance
events.
 Diggins can become the first woman representing United States to win an
individual World Cup distance classic style event. Her best result in these
events is a third place (5 times, all in the Tour de Ski).
Other contenders
 There has been only one women’s individual World Cup 20km classic style
event in (West) Germany: in Oberstdorf on 15 February 1986 (Norway’s
Marianne Dahlmo won).
 The last eight World Cup 20km classic style events were won by eight
different women. In 2022/23, Frida Karlsson (Lillehammer), Ebba
Andersson (Les Rousses) and Anne Kjersti Kalvå (Lahti) won these
events.
 Only three women have won multiple individual World Cup 20km classic
style events: Britt Pettersen (3 in 1982, 1983, 1987), Raisa Smetanina (2 in
1982, 1985) and Anette Bøe (2 in 1984, 1985).
 Among Swedish women, only Charlotte Kalla (9) has won more individual
World Cup distance events than Karlsson (7) and Andersson (7).
 Karlsson won each of the last two World Cup distance events in Germany –
the 10km classic and 20km pursuit freestyle in Oberstdorf on 3 and 4
January 2023. She can become the first Swedish woman to claim three
World Cup distance victories in Germany (Stina Nilsson 2).
 Linn Svahn has won three individual World Cup distance events (all
classic style), including the most recent classic style event, the 15km
classic style in Val di Fiemme on 6 January). She can become the first
Swedish woman to win successive individual World Cup distance classic
events.
 Sophia Laukli became the first woman born in this century (8 June 2000)
to win an individual World Cup event when she won the 10km freestyle in
Val di Fiemme on 7 January.
 Laukli can become the fifth USA woman to win multiple individual World
Cup events, after Diggins (18), Kikkan Randall (13), Rosie Brennan (2) and
Sophie Caldwell Hamilton (2).
 The only non-European winners of individual World Cup events in classic
style are Canada’s Beckie Scott (15km in Canmore, 17 December 2005)
and USA’s Sophie Caldwell Hamilton in the sprint in Oberstdorf in the Tour
de Ski on 5 January 2016.
 Victoria Carl can become the second German woman to win a World Cup
distance event on home snow, after Claudia Nystad in Oberhof on 27
December 2008 (2.8km freestyle).
