- The sprint has the form of three progressive laps, each lap has a distance of 1.5 km and is ridden in a double-leg technique.
- In the qualification, individual competitors start separately, always within 15s
- The best 12 competitors from the qualifying round advance to the semi-finals, which are divided into two groups of six
- The top three competitors from each semi-final group qualify for the final and start together
