Statistikk og fun fact
Johannes Høsflot Klæbo
Johannes Høsflot Klæbo won the second 10km classic style event in the
2023/24 men’s World Cup (in Trondheim on 17 December), after finishing
only 14th in the opening 10km classic event of the season in Ruka (won by
Martin Løwstrøm Nyenget).
Klæbo can win successive World Cup 10km classic style events for the
second time, after a run of two earlier this year: in the Tour de Ski on 3
January and in Falun on 17 March.
Only Bjørn Dæhlie (6) has won as many World Cup 10km classic style
events as Klæbo (4) among men.
Klæbo can become the first male skier to win the World Cup 10km classic
style event at least two times in the Tour de Ski, following his win last
season on 3 January.
Since the return of this discipline last season, Norwegian skiers have won
all six 10km classic style events in the men’s World Cup (four wins by
Klæbo and one apiece by Pål Golberg and Martin Løwstrøm Nyenget).
Other contenders
Martin Løwstrøm Nyenget won the first 10km classic style event in the
2023/24 men’s World Cup, in Ruka on 25 November. This marked his
second individual World Cup victory, after winning the 50km classic style in
Oslo on 6 March 2022.
Nyenget can become the fourth male skier to win multiple World Cup 10km
classic style events in a single season, after Johannes Høsflot Klæbo last
season (3), Vegard Ulvang in 1991/92 (2) and Bjørn Dæhlie in 1997/98 (2).
Iivo Niskanen came runner-up in the 10km classic style event in Ruka on
25 November. He is the only non-Norwegian man to claim a podium finish
in this event in this season’s World Cup.
Niskanen could become the second Finnish male skier to win a World Cup
event in the 10km classic style, after Mika Myllylä in 1996 (Davos) and
1999 (world championships in Ramsau am Dachstein).
Niskanen’s older sister Kerttu Niskanen has won five individual World Cup
events in the 10km classic style.
Erik Valnes came third in the 10km classic style in Ruka last month,
recording his first-ever individual World Cup podium in a non-sprinting
event. The gap to winner Nyenget was 9.7 seconds.
Valnes has recorded three World Cup podium finishes this season (2 in
sprint events, 1 in the 10km classic). He is one podium finish short of
equalling his best individual World Cup season: four top-3 finishes in
2019/20. Note: this excludes the sprint freestyle result of 30 December
