Format
The Grenke Freestyle Chess Open is a nine-round Swiss. The time control is 90 minutes for the entire game, with a 30-second increment per move from move one. From the second to the fifth round, players can switch to the Grenke Chess Open while keeping their score.

Opening and 1st round: Thursday, 2nd April 2026 approx. 6:30 pm
2nd round: Friday, 3rd April 2026 at 10 am
3rd round: Friday, 3rd April 2026 at 4 pm
4th round: Saturday, 4th April 2026 at 10 am
5th round: Saturday, 4th April 2026 at 4 pm
6th round: Sunday, 5th April 2026 at 10 am

Grenke Chess Classic is an elite chess tournament held in the German cities of Karlsruhe and Baden-Baden and sponsored by Grenke AG.[1] It was held annually between 2013 and 2019, with the exception of 2016. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, both the 2020 and 2021 editions were cancelled
